It has been a place of theological education since the early Middle Ages. After its destruction, the Burkardushaus was rebuilt in 1954 and dedicated to lay education in the diocese. The new objectivity, a revival of the ideals of the Bauhaus style, characterized the new building and the structural orientation was based on function. In 2015, the current conference house and education center was reopened after renovation and energy-efficient refurbishment.
As early as 1954, the building was given an artistic component, which was taken up during the general refurbishment. In the new rooms, the interplay of architecture, the events taking place there and the language of art was realized.
