The brewery was founded in 1643 by the Main-Franconian Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn and is thus the oldest still existing enterprise in Würzburg. The ambience of Würzburger Hofbräu provides an unusual setting for the encounter between Lower Franconian beer culture and top-class music.
