Following the surprising announcement of the closure of the Corso cinema in 2009, a signature campaign was held during the »Italienische Filmwoche«, during which around 2,700 signatures were collected for a program cinema. This led to the formation of a working group that organised film events, promoted the foundation of a cooperative and set out to find a suitable venue. This was finally reaslized in the auditorium of the Mozart Gymnasium and, in September 2010, the first cooperative cinema in Bavaria was founded. In November 2010, the Central Program Cinema gave the Main-Franconian cineastes a home again.
After its move in 2016, it can now be found on the Bürgerbräu site in the Zellerau under »Central im Bürgerbräu«. With »Mozart im Kino«, film adaptations of Mozart's operas and films are shown during the Mozartfest.
