For one season (2014/15) she was Artistic Director of the Essen Philharmonic. Katharina Strein has a degree from the Institute for Cultural Management in Ludwigsburg and supplemented her education with spells working for the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, the National Theatre in Mannheim, and the State Theatre in Stuttgart.
Her enthusiasm for classical music laid the foundations for studying school music and Romanistics at the University for Music and Mannheim University, where she was awarded a degree.

At the Université Sorbonne in Paris, she acquired the "University Licence" in musicology. As a double-bass player, she performs in concerts with many different ensembles featuring classical concert and operatic repertoires all the way through to musical cabaret and world music in Germany and the rest of Europe.
