Through Europe on the trails of Mozart

10 years, 2 months and 8 days – those are the dry, yet impressive figures showing the amount of time Wolfgang Amadé Mozart spent travelling. For almost a third of his life, Mozart was away from home. »Because, I assure you, without travel one (or at least people of the arts and sciences) is surely a deplorable creature!« This is what Mozart wrote to his father from Paris. On his trips, Mozart experienced Europe quite literally as a vast auditorium that left its mark on his musical understanding from childhood throughout his entire creative life. To do honour to the great composer, the multi-facetted international exchange constitutes a core element in the programme of the Mozartfest Würzburg. In 2021, this interchange acquires a whole new dimension: performers who were the artistes étoiles of former Mozartfest seasons embark on a journey to Europe’s Mozart cities as musical ambassadors and meet with top-ranking ensembles that have equally close ties with the Mozartfest. In a concentrated cycle during the last festival week, all soloists and ensembles will conjure up their Europe concerts’ aural delights in the Residenz. A concert initiative that joins with Mozart – in pursuit of the European idea and strengthening our present-day concert networks.
